Specialty Coat Care

Matting and undercoat removal is patient work. The aim is to save the coat where the coat can be saved, using proper detangling and dematting technique rather than pulling at a dog that is already uncomfortable. Where a mat is too tight against the skin to work out safely, we will say so and clip it, because a pain free dog matters more than a haircut.

Hand stripping is the traditional method for wire haired breeds, the terriers in particular. Dead outer coat is removed by hand rather than clipped, which is what keeps the harsh texture and the proper colour instead of leaving the coat soft and faded.
